Gear Highlight: Fly Reels
Gear Highlight: Fly Reels
A fly reel is a type of fishing reel, which instead of focussing on mechanically reeling the fish in, is meant to be cast in a rhythmic fashion while providing drag as the fish takes the "fly" and runs.
Fly reels are lightweight, strong, easily transportable, and reliable. They are great for fun, but do require patience and skill to master.
These types of fishing reels are best in conditions which include small rivers, streams, small lakes with shallow and clear water conditions. They are preferably used in high mobility (obstacle free) settings including wading, kayaking, canoeing, or the river banks.
Fly reels vary in models and features, with more advanced models including features like carbon fiber, stainless steel, specific line-weight capabilities, and disc-drag mechanical systems.
